Cycas panzhihuanensis. This sought after and rare Cycad can tolerate more frost than other species and will take to a well-drained spot in the garden if you give it some reasonable protection during the winter. Four year old plants now available for just € 30!

Agave paryii - beautiful hardy agave with blue-green leaves

Zingiber mioga, the only real hardy ginger for culinary use is back!  

Opuntia humifusa, very resistant thorn-free prickley pear. Beautiful blooms!

Opuntia phaeacantha, very resitant disc catcus. Beautiful blooms, but this one's prickly!

Albizia julibrissin "Evi's Purple", a red leaved Albizia which is much more vigourous than "Summer Chocolate".  Better flowers, too!

Eucalyptus leucoxylon, a marvellous but as yet unknown pot plant.

Phyllostachys parvifolia, the sought-after giant bamboo which is rarely available. Now only four five-litre plants left in stock at EU 45 each. First come, first served!

Gardeners diary February

Apply compost or composted dung. In the greenhouse propagation can start; cultivation of Cannas may begin in your living-room for a longer flowering season. Give the protected plants some fresh air during mild weather by loosening the protective material; restore the protection should it start freezing again. Check for hungry mice and rats under the protection. During periods of dry, frosty and sunny weather extra protection with fleece may save a plant's life!
