The new Mediterranean Garden is finished now, with palms (Butia sp. Gigantea, Jubaea, Brahea etc.) and succulent plants.
Most plants survived the harsh winter very well. Only the succulents suffered a lot; most have been replaced by Agapanthus, Nerine and hardy citrus.
This year a new carport has been built from bamboo culms, harvested in the junglegarden.

OUR GARDEN AND NURSERY
Our garden has been developing from a farmer's meadow since 1990. It started out as a collection of bamboos, but has since developed into an experimental "jungle garden". The profusion of bamboo creates a micro-climate in which all sorts of plants can feel at home, such as ferns, palms, camellias and so on. Are you bored with tidy, conifered suburban plots? GARDENER'S DIARY MARCH
Cut back dwarf bamboos such as Sasa and dwarf Pleioblastus to the ground. Coppice the Eucalyptus at 20 cm above the ground if the trees have become too tall. By the end of the month you may begin feeding hungry plants such as bamboo, musa etc.
Now is the best time for propagation of bamboo except for the very early shooting ones like Fargesia robusta. You can also transplant during wet weather. Remove winter protection during the milder spring weather, but reapply should it freeze again. During periods of dry, frosty and sunny weather extra protection with fleece may save a plant's life! In the absence of frost, go ahead with planting. Give exotics such as cannas a headstart indoors for early blooms!
